Over-the-Air – The Magazine
OTA technology in automotive retail
Vehicles are becoming more digital, more connected and richer in data. What used to be possible only in the workshop can increasingly be done remotely: software updates, digital diagnostics, condition analyses, feature activations and the evaluation of relevant vehicle data.
This makes over-the-air technology a key future topic for the entire automotive industry. OTA does not only affect manufacturers and new-car buyers. New questions and new opportunities are also emerging in used car sales, at dealerships, in service, in purchasing and in vehicle valuation.
What is already possible via over-the-air today? What role do OTA updates, vehicle data and battery data play in the market? How is digital information changing the valuation, marketing and sale of vehicles? And where are the technical, legal or economic limits?
OTA MAGAZIN puts these developments into context — with a focus on the automotive trade and day-to-day practice in the market.
Why “Over the Air” is becoming relevant now
Over-the-air is more than a technical buzzword. OTA describes a development through which vehicles are increasingly becoming digital systems. They can receive software, provide data, change functions and make technical information accessible, without every process necessarily having to take place on site at the vehicle.
For dealerships and used car dealers, this development is becoming increasingly relevant. In the future, digital vehicle data can have a growing influence on how vehicles are purchased, valued, sold and serviced.
In the trade, a vehicle has long ceased to consist only of model year, mileage, equipment and visual condition. Digital information is playing a role more and more often: software status, technical notes, diagnostic values, battery health, range of functions and available data sources.
Electric vehicles in particular show how important this transparency can become. The condition of the battery, the so-called State of Health, can significantly influence the vehicle’s value, the sales pitch and the buyer’s trust. At the same time, SoH is only one part of a larger shift: the industry is moving towards data-based vehicle valuation and digitally supported processes.
OTA MAGAZIN follows this transformation and explains which developments really matter for the market.

Our mission
We make over-the-air technology understandable and practically applicable for the automotive market.
OTA MAGAZIN provides orientation in a market in which software, vehicle data and digital diagnostics increasingly determine transparency, valuation and competitiveness. Our goal is to explain complex topics in a way that makes them not only technically understandable, but also tangible in their economic significance.
We do not treat OTA as a topic of the distant future. Many developments are already visible today: vehicles receive updates remotely, data is becoming more important for diagnostics and valuation, battery condition is moving into focus and digital services are changing customer expectations.
Our aim is to cover these topics factually, clearly and with practical relevance. Without unnecessary jargon, but with the necessary depth. For people who work in the automotive market and want to understand what over-the-air technology actually means for their day-to-day business.
Over the Air – OtA
Remote updates, data and diagnostics
In the OtA section of the magazine you will find articles on over-the-air updates, vehicle data and remote diagnostics in the automotive trade. We explain which functions can already be performed remotely, how manufacturers implement OTA and what this means for dealerships, workshops and vehicle sales.
- OTA updates and feature activations
- Software versions, diagnostic values and manufacturer data
- Impact on purchasing, valuation and remarketing

State of Health – SoH
Battery data as the key to vehicle valuation
The SoH section brings together all articles on the battery condition of electric and hybrid vehicles. You will learn how the State of Health is determined, which methods are reliable in practice and why battery data is increasingly becoming essential information for purchasing, valuation and sales.
- Determining, comparing and interpreting SoH values
- Impact on residual value, warranty and remarketing
- Practical knowledge for dealers, fleets and rental companies

Who is OTA MAGAZIN made for?
OTA MAGAZIN is aimed primarily at people in the automotive trade: dealerships, used car dealers, salespeople, buyers and decision-makers who deal with vehicle valuation, marketing and customer advice.
For these target groups, it is becoming increasingly important to be able to put digital vehicle topics into context. Anyone buying a vehicle needs to understand which information can be relevant for its valuation. Anyone selling a vehicle needs to be able to explain which digital records, battery data or updates matter to the customer. And anyone developing a dealership strategically needs to know what role OTA technology can play in processes, services and business models in the future.
At the same time, OTA MAGAZIN deliberately looks beyond the trade. Workshops, leasing companies, fleet operators, mobility providers and private vehicle owners will also increasingly come into contact with over-the-air technology, vehicle data and digital diagnostics.
The focus is on the automotive trade — but the perspective is open to the entire industry.
Topics we cover

Over-the-air technology
We explain what over-the-air means in the automotive context, which applications exist and why OTA is becoming increasingly important for the industry. This is not just about individual technical functions, but about the fundamental question of how vehicles will be updated, monitored, valued and used in the future.

Vehicle data & remote diagnostics
Modern vehicles generate and store more and more information. This data can provide insights into condition, usage, maintenance needs or technical anomalies. OTA MAGAZIN examines how vehicle data and remote diagnostics can be used in the market — and where the current limits are.

Battery data & State of Health
For electric vehicles, battery condition is becoming a central factor. The State of Health influences trust, residual value and saleability. We explain why battery data is becoming more and more important in used car sales, what role digital readouts play and how SoH information can be used in purchasing and sales.
Over-the-air is becoming a key topic in mobility
The coming years will show how closely vehicles, software, data and digital services merge. One thing is already clear today: over-the-air technology will play an important role in how vehicles are updated, diagnosed, valued and marketed.
For the automotive trade, this means: those who understand OTA can assess developments earlier, advise customers better and make more targeted use of digital opportunities.
OTA MAGAZIN follows this development editorially, in clear language and with a focus on practice.
For everyone who wants to know what over-the-air means today — and what role OTA will play in the automotive market tomorrow.
